London Voted Best UK City

Fri, 04 Sep 2009

London has been named the UK’s number one city for the second year in a row by readers of Conde Nast Traveller Magazine.

The results of the magazine’s top UK city poll were announced earlier this week at the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller 11th Annual Readers’ Travel Awards, held at The Royal Institution of Great Britain, London .

London saw off competition from Edinburgh and Liverpool to retain its number one spot, with Condé Nast readers highlighting the city’s thriving night-life, along with its range of top restaurants, museums and theatres .

But despite topping the poll, London scored badly for cleanliness and value for money, and was thought to be less environmentally friendly than most of its city rivals.

Sarah Miller, editor of Condé Nast Traveller, said: "London has come top of our readers' choice of favourite cities thanks to its glorious architecture, fabulous range of restaurants and cuisines, amazing choices of entertainment, world-class culture and its incredible selection of first-rate hotels ."

According to the magazine’s readers, the top ten list of UK cities for 2009 are London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bath, Oxford, Manchester, York, Glasgow, Brighton and Canterbury .
