International hotel chain Marriott has announced plans to further expand its portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region.
The company, which operates 450 hotels on six continents, confirmed it will be opening 21 new resorts in the region over the next four years, adding to the 37 Asia-based resorts which are currently under construction.
According to Marriott, the two projects will add 58 properties and over 16,000 rooms to its Asia-Pacific portfolio by the end of 2013, making it one of the largest international hotel operators in China, India and Thailand .
Other locations where new Marriott establishments will open over the next four years include the Philippines, Cambodia and the Maldives .
Ed Fuller, Marriott's managing director of international lodging, said: "We are confident the portfolio of lodging choices we are developing with our local investors and partners here in Asia will be recognised and appreciated for their cosmopolitan amenities, sophistication, state-of-the-art connectivity, inspiring authenticity and good value."
Luxury hotel and resort brand the Ritz-Carlton is also in the process of expanding its business, particularly in the Far East, with new hotels set to open next year in Shanghai and Hong Kong .
