Low-cost airline bmi has updated its self-service check-in system in a bid to make it quicker and easier for passengers to check in for flights online, at airports and through mobile phones .
Travellers using the British carrier’s range of self check-in options can now print out boarding passes, check in for onward flights, change seats and make use of other facilities thanks to the technology upgrade carried out by IT giant IBM .
The revamped system can be accessed online or via self check-in machines at all of bmi's main bases in the UK and Ireland, including London Heathrow, Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow .
Peter Federico, the airline's IT director, said: "We are pleased to be partnering with a company which has demonstrated its capability in this field over a number of years."
"IBM's solution has a well-proven track record, being run by many airlines in Europe and around the world. It gives us a unified check-in platform for self-service kiosks, web and mobile devices."
Stuart Wilson of IBM added that reliable and user-friendly check -in technology is now a "major priority" for airlines .
