Air New Zealand has been named 'airline of the year' by Air Transport World, the leading international aviation magazine.
The magazine praised the carrier for its good customer service, its commitment to environmental research and other green initiatives, innovative use of technology and for its solid performance during the global economic downturn.
New Zealands national tourism agency said the international accolade will not only boost the airlines reputation but will also have positive effects on the countrys travel industry as a whole.
Tim Hunter, acting chief executive of Tourism New Zealand, said: "New Zealanders know Air New Zealand is a world-class airline committed to innovation, customer care and environmental protection."
"This award will reinforce to international travellers that our national carrier is among the world's best."
He added that it is a "huge advantage" for New Zealand to be served by an internationally recognised, award-winning carrier, as most of the country's international visitors travel by air.
