Travellers flying from Gatwick Airport were forced to spend a second night at the air travel hub due to severe flight disruptions caused by the heavy snowfall.
According to reports, hundreds passengers waiting for flights slept inside the airport on Wednesday night after more than 400 inbound and outbound flights were cancelled by airlines following the build up of snow on the runway.
Many services were also disrupted on Thursday despite the runway being cleared and reopened, leading to a second uncomfortable night on terminal floors for some stranded passengers.
British Airways and budget airlines EasyJet and Ryanair were among the carriers that had to scrap some services.
In a statement, Gatwick said it remained open but with some disruption to flight arrivals and delays to departures.
It added: "Some airlines are operating very restricted services, and we strongly advise passengers to contact their airline before setting out for the airport.
"We regret the disruption caused to our passengers' travel plans, but the safety and security of aircraft and passengers are our number one priority."
The airport said that all passengers travelling from Gatwick in the next 24 hours should contact their airline for the latest flight updates.
The cold snap has also caused a number of cancellations and delays on flights from other busy airports including Heathrow, Birmingham, Luton, Bristol, Southampton and Exeter, while there has also been widespread disruption to railways and roads across the UK.
