Poland Named Travel Hotspot Of Decade

Fri, 15 Jan 2010

Poland has been named as one of the top destinations of the so-called noughties by the Guardian’s travel experts .

According to a report in the newspaper’s travel section, the country’s popularity among tourists and holidaymakers soared between 2000 and 2009 due to the availability of cheap beer, low-cost accommodation and flights .

The Guardian said Poland offers a "rich political past, fantastic culture and beautiful countryside" and recommended travellers visit destinations such as Warsaw, Krakow and Sopot.

Welcoming the report, Bogdan Becla, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, described Poland is a "wonderful choice" for all types of holidays, from mini-weekend breaks to two-week getaways.

He added: "We have lots to offer from great shopping, beautiful beaches and wonderful countryside to vibrant cities, a rich culture and some sensational food."

"Poland isn't just a destination of the past decade, but it will be a destination of choice for years to come."
